Panja Sahab

Panja Sahab
In 1521 the founder of the Sikh faith, Guru Nanak, arrived in Hasan Abdal, a Gurdwara was built on the spot that he stayed containing a sacred rock that is believed to contain the hand print of Guru Nanak.Punja or panja :hand or paw. There are different traditions about the origin of the Hand print.
The founder of the sikh faith Guru Nanak, "when proceeding about the country, being wearied one day, asked the Faqir on the hill to give him a cup of water and some food. The Faqir was surly, and an altercation ensued between them, when the Faqir told him that if Nanak was a man of any miracles he would supply his wants without any assistance, and would even move the hills. Nanak put out his hand and stamped his fingers on the rock, where the mark still remains; and in commemoration of the Baba, the late Sirdar Hari Singh built a small temple, which he named Panja Sahib, from the five fingers. Hola Mohallah

Hola Mohalla

This Event is going to fall on n 2013, it will falls on 28 March.

Hola Mohalla or Hola Mahalla or simply Hola is a Sikh festival that takes place on the first of the lunar month of Chet which usually falls in March. This, by a tradition established by Guru Gobind Singh, follows the Hindu festival of Holi by one day; Hola is the masculine form of the feminine sounding Holi.
The word "Mohalla" is derived from the Arabic root hal (alighting, descending) and is a Punjabi word that implies an organized procession in the form of an army column. But unlike Holi, when people playfully sprinkle coloured powder, dry or mixed in water, on each other, the Guru made Hola Mohalla an occasion for the Sikhs to demonstrate their martial skills in simulated battles.
Together the words "Hola Mohalla" stands for "mock fight". During this festival, processions are organised in the form of army type columns accompanied by war-drums and standard-bearers and proceeding to a given spot or moving in state from one gurdwara to another. The custom originated in the time of Guru Gobind Singh who held the first such mock fight event at Anandpur in February 1701. Courtesy by SikhiWiki

About Sikhism

There are 20 million Sikhs in the world, most of whom live in the Punjab province of India. The 2001 census recorded 336,000 Sikhs in the UK.
Sikhism was founded in the 16th century in the Punjab district of what is now India and Pakistan. It was founded by Guru Nanak and is based on his teachings, and those of the 9 Sikh gurus who followed him.
The most important thing in Sikhism is the internal religious state of the individual.
  • Sikhism is a monotheistic religion
  • Sikhism stresses the importance of doing good actions rather than merely carrying out rituals
  • Sikhs believe that the way to lead a good life is to:
    • keep God in heart and mind at all times
    • live honestly and work hard
    • treat everyone equally
    • be generous to the less fortunate
    • serve others
  • The Sikh place of worship is called a Gurdwara
  • The Sikh scripture is the Guru Granth Sahib, a book that Sikhs consider a living Guru
The tenth Sikh Guru decreed that after his death the spiritual guide of the Sikhs would be the teachings contained in that book, so the Guru Granth Sahib now has the status of a Guru, and Sikhs show it the respect they would give to a human Guru.
The community of men and women who have been initiated into the Sikh faith is the Khalsa. The Khalsa celebrated its 300th anniversary in 1999.
Guru Gobind Singh decreed that where Sikhs could not find answers in the Guru Granth Sahib, they should decide issues as a community, based on the principles of their scripture.

Gurdwara Kartarpur

Gurdwara Kartapur

Kartarpura district Narowal, Pakistan was first established by Guru Dev Nanak Sahab in his early life. When Baba Guru Nanak Dev passed away, Hindu and Muslim raised their voice to perform their last pilgrimages according to their religion. That’s why a Samadh lies in the Gurdwara and grave lies on the premises as the reminder of this discord.
The Gurdwara is located near a small village named Kothay Pind on the west bank of river Ravi. This Gurdwara can also be seen from the Dehra Baba Nanak the other side of the border in India. These two places are the most holiest places in Sikhism. Now the government from both is deciding to let the Yatris come and visit both Gurdwaras without visa as it lies only 3km from each other.
